Planned Giving
It’s often very easy
to forget about the importance of giving. Many people feel
they don’t have the financial resources to give as much as
they would like, while also carrying out their
responsibilities to their loved ones and others.
If you’ve ever felt
this way, you may be interested in gift planning. Planned
giving is a process that helps you identify ways of giving
that suits you best. The planned giving process helps you
plan so that you, your loved ones and others for whom you
care about will be provided for as you desire. This may
also include provisions for an organization, such as the
Uptown Shelter, whose mission you support.
A
few examples of planned giving include:
Pledge Commitment
If you’d like to
partner with us on a monthly basis, you have the option of
becoming a “Pledge Partner.” You may make a “Pledge
Commitment” to give a monthly gift in order to enable the
Uptown Shelter to fulfill its mission of caring for people
who are homeless and giving them opportunities to rebuild
their lives.
Real Estate
Before you sell real
estate, consider an alternate option. If you'd like to help
fulfill our mission, your property opens the door to a
unique giving opportunity: donate the property to us, either
now or whenever you no longer need it. You can give the
property outright, place it in trust, retain the use of it
for life or give it by will. All of these methods will
enable you to enjoy personal financial benefits while
supporting the Uptown Shelter in a meaningful way.
Retirement Accounts
The easiest way to
leave the balance of a retirement account to us after your
lifetime is to list us as the beneficiary on the beneficiary
form provided by your plan administrator. Never make a
beneficiary change, however, before discussing your desires
with your professional advisor. For an IRA or plan you
administer personally, notify the custodian in writing and
keep a copy with your valuable papers.
Life Insurance
If you have a life
insurance policy you no longer need, you might contribute it
to a charitable cause in which you believe. Purchasing a new
policy and naming The Uptown Shelter as beneficiary is
another possibility. This often makes a significant future
gift feasible and affordable, especially for younger donors.
Bequests
When you name the
Uptown Shelter as a beneficiary in your will, you leave a
legacy that will benefit future generations. Please
consider giving the Uptown Shelter a percentage of your
estate, or making an outright gift.
